NCAA bracket update 2010

This NCAA bracket update 2010 includes victories for Butler University and St. Mary's College and a stunning loss by Villanova University, as several tickets to the Sweet 16 were officially punched Saturday afternoon.

NCAA bracket update Butler had to earn its win over No. 13 Murray State in dramatic fashion. The Bulldogs opened up a sizeable lead in the second half only to watch Murray State rally back and briefly go ahead. Even with a chance to ice the game in the closing seconds Butler missed the front end of a one-and-one, but Murray State failed to even get a shot off down by two in the final 10 seconds.

St. Mary's, meanwhile, continued to shred its competition, dominating most of its contest with Villanova, a heavily-favored No. 2 seed. Led by the interior presence of Omar Samhan, St. Mary's had Villanova on its heels for much of the afternoon and forced the second straight less-than-stellar effort from Wildcat point guard Scotty Reynolds, holding off a late Villanova rally to secure the victory.

It is the first Sweet 16 appearance for the Gaels. Butler, meanwhile, took another step closer to what would be an emotional Final Four, as the college hoops title weekend will take place in Indianapolis, home to the Bulldogs.

Villanova was nearly upset in the first round by No. 15 Robert Morris and never found its rhythm, turning in a stale effort one season after reaching the Final Four.
